From the sign on the building:
“This old depot was part of the DT&I Railroad in the early 1900s. The DT&I division headquarters was located in Napoleon. Henry Ford owned the DT&I in the 1920s and had over 350 employees here.
“The depot was moved here to the fairgrounds, in 1995, from Oakwood Avenue. Henry Ford and his grandsons came to Napoleon many times to see the steam engines at the roundhouse. Mr. Ford would travel in his private railroad car. On one occasion, he stopped here on his way to West Virginia with his friends, Thomas Edison, Harvey Firestone and their wives.
“The logo painted here on the left ‘We have the Connections’ refers to the over 30 connecting mainlines crossed in the 358 miles from Detroit, MI to Ironton, OH on the Ohio River, which made up the DT&I Railroad.”
