This suspension bridge is 4167 ft. long. However, the suspension span over the main channel of the Mississippi River is 644 ft. long. Steel wires make up the cables that support the two lane 26 ft. wide deck.
Built in 1955, it has become locally known as the "South Bridge". U.S. highway 30, also known as Lincoln Highway, is one of the first transcontinental highways. It crosses the Mississippi River here. As one of the gateways to the West, this bridge is also known officially as the Gateway Bridge.
