The park was developed in 1936 by the Civilian Conservation Crops. Recreation opportunities include camping, picnicking, canoeing, fishing, hiking and swimming. Nature trails lead visitors through forests of live oaks, sabal palms, magnolias and hickory trees along the Hillsborough River. The park has a playground, gift shop and snack bar. Located in the park is Fort Foster Historic Site, a replica of an 1837 fort from the Second Seminole War. Tours of Fort Foster are offered seasonally by special reservation. Located 12 miles north of Tampa and six miles south of Zephyrhills on US 301.
