[FR] Cette plaque commémorative en la mémoire du Lt Jack E. Shively est située à l'extrémité est de la Promenade des Docteurs Mattrais.
Jack E. Shively, originaire de Saratoga, avait déjà été instructeur lui-même, formant notamment des pilotes en Chine contre l'invasion japonaise.
Nommé en 1944 à la 8e Air Force qui participait à l'appui aérien du Débarquement, c'était sa première mission, aux commandes de son P-51 Mustang, sur la France le 13 juin 1944 où il fut abattu par un avion allemand, alors qu'il venait bombarder les ponts de Chinon pour désorganiser l'armée d'occupation. Jack E. Shively appartenait au 504th Fighter Squadron (339th Fighter Group).
[EN] This commemorative stele in the memory of the Lt Jack E. Shively is situated in the extremity is of the Walk of Doctors Mattrais.
Jack E. Shively, native of Saratoga, had already been an instructor himself, training in particular pilots in China against the Japanese invasion.
Appointed in 1944 in 8th Air Forces which participated supporting air of the Landing, it was its first mission, to the commands of its P-51 Mustang, on France June 13th, 1944 when it was shot down by a German plane, while it came to bombard the bridges of Chinon to disrupt the occupying army. Jack E. Shively belonged to the 504th Fighter Squadron (339th Fighter Group).
