[E] Airport Tours Val de Loire is an airport in the Indre-et-Loire department. It straddles the communes of Tours and Parçay-Meslay.
It is open to commercial, regular or non-domestic and international traffic, private aircraft, IFR and VFR. It is however not accessible to large civil aircraft, means of rescue present on the airport is currently not equipped to respond adequately in an emergency. However, it has hosted several times Concorde.
Its construction began in the 1930s as a military field. It was used during the Second World War, including Winston Churchill on the eve of the armistice, before being destroyed by the Germans then British bombing. After the war, it is used by NATO and the U.S. Air Force before becoming a French air base in 1952 and host successively Bombardment Group in 1962 and Lorraine school fighter Force Air. [F] L'aéroport de Tours Val de Loire est un aéroport du département d'Indre-et-Loire. Il est situé à cheval sur les communes de Tours et de Parçay-Meslay.
Il est ouvert au trafic national et international commercial, régulier ou non, aux avions privés, aux IFR et aux VFR. Il n'est cependant pas accessible aux gros appareils civils, les moyens de secours présents sur l'aéroport n'étant pour l'instant pas équipés pour intervenir de manière satisfaisante en cas d'urgence. Il a toutefois accueilli plusieurs fois le Concorde.
Sa construction remonte aux années 1930 en tant que terrain militaire. Il fut utilisé pendant la Seconde Guerre mondiale, notamment par Winston Churchill à la veille de l'armistice, avant d'être détruit par les bombardements allemands puis britanniques. La guerre finie, il est utilisé par l'OTAN et l'US Air Force, avant de devenir une base aérienne française en 1952 et d'héberger successivement le Groupe de bombardement Lorraine puis en 1962 l'école de chasse de l'Armée de l'Air.
