"The Shelby-Nicholson-Schindler House, 701 W. St. Joseph Street, Perryville, Missouri, is a significant local example of an unusual variation of the typical Missouri, Classically derived-style residential building. It is also noteworthy as the home of several locally prominent citizens.
The typical, raid-nineteenth century, Missouri house was a two-story, L-shaped, five-bay building with a symmetrical main (front) facade. All openings were rectangular-shaped, spaced one per bay. The main entrance was centered in the middle bay of the main facade. Gable roofs covered both the main portion and the rear wing of the house. The Shelby-Nicholson-Schindler House, however, deviates from this typical form by the use of a flat roof enclosed by a parapet over the main (north) portion and semicircular and segmental window and doorway openings." - National Register Nomination
The house is in excellent condition and is well maintained. The surrounding gardens are very beautiful with many rose plants.
