The largest black cottonwood tree in the United States is located at the historic Willamette Mission State Park in Marion County, Oregon. The tree, scientific name "Populus Tirchocarpa," is believed to have started growing around the year 1734. According to the almost 20 year old sign, it is 158 feet tall with a circumference of 26ft, 8 inches and a spread of 110 feet.

GPS coordinates for this waymark are from the location of the sign, the best vantage point to see the entire tree. A closer view of the tree is from 45° 4.624'N, 123° 3.077'W, but that location does not allow as good a perspective for photography as you are too close to the tree.
