It is 127.25 miles long and flows from the inland woollen town of Leeds to the coastal sea port of Liverpool, crossing the Pennines along the way. Work on the canal started in 1770 and built in a number of sections and was finally completed in 1816.
At this point the milestone is 44.25 miles from the start at Leeds and 83 miles from the port of Liverpool.
This milestone is standing next to the wall of bridge 149, an accommodation bridge that gives a farmer access to his fields from the farmhouse.
