This is the third bridge on this site as described in the County History :-
A bridge, of brick and stone, with three arches, replaced a wooden one built in 1548. The brick bridge was replaced in 1797 by a single-span iron one, which in its turn gave place in 1911 to a ferro-concrete bridge.
The illustration is of the Iron bridge which was pedestrianised when the nearby ferro-concrete bridge was built.
