The front says Thayers. It is a Furniture and Fine Gift's Store. If you go behind the building, you will find LA Thayers Gift Store. No, it is not a REAL store, but that of the imagination of Mr. Skip Shelton. Take a second to stand back from the building (WATCH FOR TRAFFIC, YOU ARE STANDING IN THE STREET) and transport yourself to an earlier place and time...

The first thing you will notice are the windows upstairs, the proprietor must live there. In the left window there is a cat and in the middle a poodle looking out at you. Yes, that is a poodle; I thought it was a gargoyle at first. Just below the windows, the window boxes are all abloom with flowers, red and white. How the windows sparkle in the sunlight. Below, at ground level, there are potted plants and gas lights on the pillars.

The window reads LA THAYERS GIFTS. The door is open and inside we see a man in a red vest tending to his merchandise. Could this be Mr. Thayer? On the door is posted the hours, but they are obscure. Sun faded, perhaps. Or does this curious little gift shop never close?

I found my first Skip Shelton mural in McCormick, SC. From what have read, he has over 100 works spread around the CSRA. (Central Savannah River Area) See WMHFJJ, located about 25 miles away in McCormick, SC.

See also WMHRM2, just a few building down.

Unfortunately Mr. Shelton passed away on June 1, 2013. So I will have to search for his works without his assistance.
