Chaos I is a 7-ton, kinetic sculpture by Swiss artist Jean Tinguely (1925-1991). The 30-foot high piece is the largest work by Tinguely in the United States. The sculpture was placed in the original Commons in Columbus in the early 1970s. For three years it was put in storage while the commons were rebuilt. The sculpture goes through the cycle of a day starting off slowly in the morning and then moving along quickly and loudly and then calming down again at the end of the day.
Chaos I is located near the food court and indoor playground. It is right inside the Washington Street entrance where the coordinates listed above were taken.
