Ponte Brolla is the first rural station from Locarno at the line to Domodossola, known as Centovalli (hundred valleys) railway. It is located at the entrance to the Maggia valley.
The railway station as well as the line opened in 1923. Until 1965 here also a side line into the Maggia valley brached off, then this one was abandoned and replaced by buses. Today the line is mainly for commuters in the Locarno area and tourist. There is no town at this station, but it is a popular starting point for hiking or climbing tours, also cliff divers like the rocks in the Maggia gorge just across the road.
There is about one train every hour in each direction.
