The small church Madonna della Ruga was built in the 17th century at a stairway through the vineyards west of Ascona, today this is in the middle of a residential zone with many holiday appartments.
The church incorporated a smaller chapel from the 15th century, a mural from the original chapel was conserved in the niche of a small side altar.
The outside is undecorated, except the skull relief in the front gable, all but the front face are raw stonework.
