A memorial to the miners who were killed in the local collieries.

The memorial consists of half an original pit winding wheel set on a sandstone rectangular plinth. It is situated in a recess in front of Dodworth Public Library with one stainless steel seat, dedication and other plaques. It is in memory of the 288 miners killed in the local eight pits from 1850 until the last closure in 1987.
Dedication reads -

WHO WORKED AND LOST THEIR LIVES
AT THE COLLIERIES LISTED BELOW

There are two other plaques, one listing the sponsors of the memorial and a poem "THE MINER'S LIFE". Also a framed map of the collieries with sketches by local school children round the perimeter.
