The Harry F. Byrd is one of two Visitor Centers within the Shenandoah National Park on Skyline Drive, with this one being near the Big Meadows Developed Area.
Named for the Governor Harry F. Byrd Sr., the center is open Weekends Only, generally from the first weekend in April to the first weekend in May, after which is then open 7 Days a week until the weekend after Thanksgiving. Hours of Operation during all seasons is 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
At the Byrd Visitor Center, you will find Restrooms, information desk, exhibits, ranger programs, videos, bookstore, publications, maps, backcountry permits, and first aid.
Off Road Directions: On Skyline Drive between the Thornton Gap (US 211) and the Swift Water Run Gap (US 33) entrance stations in the Central District. The center is located just off of Skyline Drive across from Big Meadows at Milepost 51.
