Dickey Ridge is one of two visitor centers in Shenandoah National Park. Located on Skyline Drive, Dickey Ridge offers Restrooms, information desk, exhibits, orientation movie, bookstore, publications, maps, backcountry permits, and first aid.
The center is generally open weekends only from the first weekend of April till the second weekend of May, after which it is open seven days a week until the weekend after thanksgiving. Hours for the center during all seasons are 9:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m.
Dickey Ridge was developed by the Virginia Sky-Line Company in 1938. It is located within the Skyline Drive Historic District which was designated a National Historic Landmark on October 6, 2008. In the 1950’s original tourist cabins were moved to Skyland and Lewis Mountain. Designed by Architect Marcellus Wright for the park concessioner, the visitor center was originally built as a lodge but converted to Visitor Center in 1958.
