The Kinsol Trestle, officially the Koksilah River Trestle, is a 44 m high and 188 m long wooden trestle. Completed in 1920 as part of the construction of the Canadian National Railway line from Victoria to Lake Cowichan, the trestle is believed to remain the longest and highest wooden bridge in the Commonwealth, and one of the largest in the world. The rail line ceased operations in the 1980s, and has since been converted to a 120 km multi-use trail called the Cowichan Valley Trail, which is available for hiking, cycling, and horseback riding. The rehabilitation of the trestle was the final major piece in this conversion, and the trestle opened to trail users on July 28, 2011.
