The Two Miners mural shows a scene with the miners at the front of one of the many mines in the area. It most likely is the Emerald Mine.

The Emerald Mine was the most active mine in the area in the 19th and 20th centuries. This is a typical scene of what the workers endured while in the mines. During winter, conditions at the mines were extreme.

Note the light attached to their headgear, as it was very dark, damp and dangerous once they entered the mines. Cave-ins were common and many miners lost their lives. In the very early days of the mining operations candles were used as a light source.
