Fischbrunnen (Fish Fountain) is an oldest fountain in the city and it is located in Münsterplatz (Cathedral Square). The city Freiburg im Breisgau experienced a few heavy raids during WW 2. On 27 November 1944 a raid by more than 300 bombers of the RAF Bomber Command destroyed a large portion of the city center, with the notable exception of the Münster, which was only lightly damaged. After the war, the city was rebuilt on its medieval plan. In 1949 four stamps were issued in occasion of the succesful reconstruction with city tourist attractions. On one of the stamps the oldest Gothic fountain - Fischbrunnen - was depicted.
