As you go through the Salem-Shotwell Covered Bridge in Municipal Park, one of the first things you will see will be this millstone on display.

The historic Salem-Shotwell Covered Bridge has been restored in its new home in Municipal Park in Opelika, Alabama. It lasted from 1900 to 2005 in its original location and has been in Opelika since 2007. The bridge is located on Park Road, near the intersection with Rocky Brook Road. When you cross from Park Road, you willwalk to an open area where the millstone is displayed.
There is a brass plaque on a post over the stone. It reads:
"This "Top Rock" Millstone
was in a grist mill
owned and operated by W.S.A. Bence
on Sweetwater Creek in Clay County, AL
1919-1947
Donated by H.S. Bence"
