Believed to be a spy by the northern army in the Civil War, Sam Davis was eventually hanged to death. He was only 21 years old when killed and is looked at as a hero throughout the south.
The bronze statue of Davis sits in the southwest corner of the State Capitol grounds on Capitol Hill in Nashville. It was built and placed in the early 1900's.
