Nearly all of the 35 mile long glacier resides in Canada, but the 2 mile wide terminus is currently in the United States. The glacier is currently receding at a rate between 10 and 60 feet a year. Rock debris from landslides and medial moraines cover much of the glacier. The Grand Pacific is responsible for carving most of Glacier Bay.
The only access is by air or water. Only two cruise ships are permitted to visit each day. Other smaller craft are also allowed to visit.
