Sterling's oldest animal pound, an amazing rock enclosed holding area. It was used to contain loose livestock in the 1700's when the town of Sterling was still part of Voluntown, thus the name. (Sterling became an established town in 1794.) Look around and imagine what life was like in this small New England town when the pound was filled with horses, cows and sheep. If someone was missing their livestock, they knew where to go to find them.
