The memorial has a piece of a beam from the World Trade Center. There's a plaque on the piece. It reads:
"We will never forget September 11, 2001. This section of steel was recovered from the World Trade Center. It is dedicated in memory of the 343 firefighters and all who lost their lives on September 11, 2001."
Engraved in the plaque is an American flag and an image of the twin towers.
