Constructed in 1805 of limestone this obelisk stands 45 feet tall. The original design by Johann Andreas Gärtner had fountain basins on two sides of the base. In 1881 decoration was added to the base by way of relief sculptures being attached to the north and south sides. The reliefs portray women transporting food and drinks reflecting the everyday happenings in the marketplace. The obelisk is illuminated at night, while the fountain only operates during the warm months.
