The Picnic Shelter at Buzzard's Roost was constructed by the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) in 1941. It is the only remaining CCC work evident in Mark Twain State Park. An all black CCC Company was located in the Mark Twain State Park from 1939-1941. The shelter is a t-shaped stone structure with a large stone fireplace and open to front. The picnic shelter is in very good condition and continues to be used.
The shelter was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1985.
