The Thaytira Presbyterian was founded in 1753 and the church that stands about 1/2 mile north of this historical marker was completed in 1860. The Grave of early minister and educator Samuel McCorkle is located in the church cemetery along with the John Knox the Great Gandfather of President James K. Polk.

"Presbyterian Church. Founded about 1753. Present building completed in 1860. Grave of Sam'l McCorkle. 600 yards north."
This historical marker stands on Highway 150 at the intersection of White Road in Rowan County.
