This relatively new memorial was erected and dedicated in 2000 on the ground of the Surry County Courthouse in Dobson, North Carolina. The memorial inscription read:

“In memory of the Confederate Soldiers of Surry County. 1861-1865.

“Duty is the sublimest word in our language. Do your duty in all things . You can never do more and never wish to do less. - Robert E. Lee”
