The Spanish-American War memorial is located behind the Georgia Capitol, on Capitol Avenue SW, between Capitol Square SW and Martin Luther King Drive SW. It is a simple stone monument noting the service in Cuba, Puerto Rico, the Philippine Islands and the USA. In the center is a representation of the Hiker, which can be found in statues around the country, surrounded by the words "Spanish War Veterans 1898 - 1902."

On the bottom right are the following words:

"The Hiker"
The volunteer soldier, who marched afoot, to triumph over obstacles on foreign lands and seas, to free oppressed peoples, to unite our strife-torn nation, to secure world recognition.

Fraternity
Patriotism
Humanity

On the bottom left are:

The following information on "The Hiker" statue comes from Wikipedia:

"The Hiker is a statue created by Theo Alice Ruggles Kitson. It commemorates the American soldiers who fought in the Spanish–American War, the Boxer Rebellion and the Philippine–American War. The first version of it was made for the University of Minnesota in 1906, but at least 50 copies were made, and were erected very widely across the US.

"The Hiker depicts a hero stripped of his parade uniform and shown as a soldier reacting to the challenges of the battlefield."
