New railway station nearing completion in downtown St Thomas, ON.
The station will become the northern terminus of the Port Stanley Terminal Railway, an excursion railway based in Port Stanley, ON.
The new station is being constructed on near the site of the old London and Port Stanley Railway station near downtown St Thomas. The L&PS ceased passenger service in 1957, and freight service from St Thomas to Port Stanley was halted in 1982. In the intervening years most signs of the electric railway were covered over or removed. Interestingly, the rails across Talbot Street remained, although the rails were last used over 30 years ago.
The terminal is scheduled to be completed in 2013, with the first train expected soon after.
