The El Rey Theater is located in the Ingleside Terraces neighborhood of San Francisco. Timothy Pflueger built a 146-foot Art Deco tower, which he intended to be a beacon in the foggy neighborhood. The tower of the El Rey can be seen from Mount Davidson to Merced Heights.

On Saturday, Nov 19, 2011, an 80th anniversary event was staged at the El Rey. In a special one night showing, The Smiling Lieutenant starring Maurice Chevalier was shown, the first film shown in the theatre.

The El Rey Theatre seated 1831 and had 1 screen. The building at 1970 Ocean Avenue is painted salmon with a cross in the giant Art Deco tower and has been the home of the Voice of Pentecost church since 1977.
