This barber pole resides in front of the Palace Barber Shop on historic W Miner St. There are numerous older buildings along Miner Street that contain historical markers that relate the history of each building. This barber shop has an older, wooden sign in the front window that reads:
Franco American Hotel Bldg. 1866-67
Leon Marniesse - Native of France Prop. - Ran the Franco-American Hotel on this site in 1853 or 55.
New Dining Rm. & Rms. above on west side built.
1899 Chas. Bonhart - Prop. Chas. Herzog, Jr. - Manager Hotel served as office and station of Wells, Fargo - Bank and Express Co. - 1862-1866. |
I don't know how many years this barber shop has resided in the Franco American Hotel Building but it has a nice, vintage look and feel that complements the red building. This building is also the only building that contains trees in front along Miner Street.
