The polyurethane sign by the roadside depicts important buildings of the town :- the castle and the parish church at the top of the sign, with the priory and the ancient house at the bottom of the sign . In the centre of the sign is a chained swan, alluding to the public house of the same name, one of the oldest buildings in the town.

The wrought iron sign outside the museum depicts in words the facets of Clare’s past, with the Clare coat of arms at the centre. The sign was created in 1969 to celebrate the golden jubilee of the Clare Women’s Institute. The plaque on the shaft reads
