EN: "Hohle Felsen (Hollow Rocks)" are located east of Arlesheim on the southern slope of a wooded hill just below the ruins of Äussere Birseck. There are three caves close to each other. One of them has several entrances and is easily walkable for about 30 meters, while the other two are only some steps long.
The caves were archaeologically explored in 1952-1954, there were skeletal remains of children with grave goods, ax blades, arrowheads and a ceramic vessel discovered, all dating from the Neolithic period (around 3000 BC). The site was added to the inventory of cultural property of regional significance, yet little information about them can be found.
DE: Der Hohle Felsen liegt östlich von Arlesheim am südlichen Abhang eines bewaldeten Hügels direkt unterhalb der Ruine Äussere Birseck. Es befinden sich drei Höhlen nahe beieinander. Eine davon hat mehrere Eingange und ist etwa 30 Meter bequem begehbar; die anderen zwei reichen nur einige Schritte in den Felsen.
Die Höhlen wurden 1952-1954 archäologisch untersucht, dabei wurden Skelettreste von Kindern mit Grabbeigaben, Beilklingen, Pfeilspitzen und ein Keramikgefäss aus der Jungsteinzeit (um 3000 v.Chr.) entdeckt. Die Fundstelle wurde ins Inventar der Kulturgüter von regionaler Bedeutung aufgenommen; trotzdem sind kaum Informationen über sie zu finden.
