The Deidrich Building is a concrete, two-story building constructed in 1912. The building's exterior walls are built of pre-cast, hollow concrete blocks. The building was designed for retail activities on the first floor and residential and office space on the upper floor. The lower floor is divided into two separate store fronts.
The building was constructed for Peter Deidrich, on Stayton's main street, one block south of his existing hardware store. The store provided space for Deidrich's operation (north end) and for a tavern operated by Roy Mullinix in the south portion. An attorney moved into the corner upstairs office, while the Deidrich and Mullinix families resided in the living spaces. The south portion's business tenants changed frequently through the years. Subsequent occupants included a five and ten cents store, a mens' clothing store and eventually the first automobile dealership in Stayton, a Ford franchise owned by Deidrich. By the mid-1920s, the Ford dealership was relocated to another building and Deidrich re-opened his hardware business along with a grocery store. From the end of prohibition into the 1970s, the building served as a state liquor store, operated by the Deidrich family.
