The weir spans a total width of approximately 80 metres and is constructed of sloping masonry with an overflow channel built into the side of the weir adjacent to an existing fish pass.
In a recent study to independently establish the hydropower potential at the site, the gross head at the weir was measured at 3.5 metres, and the mean flow just over 21 cubic metres per second (cumecs). Consequently the recommended type of hydro turbine for the site is the Archimedean Screw.
