Magna Community Baptist Church
The Magna Community Baptist Church is the first and only Protestant church building constructed in Magna, and for over 70 years it has served an important role in the religious affairs of the community. The original one-room section of the church was built in 1896 for the Baptist congregation in Mercur, a mining town located approximately 30 miles to the South. In 1914, as Mercur was being abandoned, the building was moved to Magna, which at that time was known as Pleasant Green. The church was moved once again in 1924 to its current location, and in order to accommodate the growing congregation a large addition was built to the East in 1928. The congregation, though affiliated with the Baptist church, has always operated under a spirit of ecumenicalism, accommodating members from a variety of Christian groups.
