"Horse and Rider" welcomes visitors to Snyatan Shopping Centre in West Kelowna, which formally opened November 16th, 2011.
The sculpture was done by Virgil “Smoker” Marchand, a renowned sculptor and a member of the Confederated Tribes of the Colville Indian Reservation of Colville, Washington. Marchand’s sculpture is a 13 foot high representation of a horse and rider at ease. The rider bears a shield identifying him as a member of Westbank First Nation.
The sculpture is mounted atop a large native boulder. It stands adjacent to Highway 97, affording passers-by and commuters an excellent view of the sculpture from the highway.
