From the NRHP: "The Williams Smith House is a two-and-one-half story, Second Empire private residence with a flared straight mansard, arched dormer windows and ornate entablature. The circa 1875 frame building is generally rectangular in plan with a vertical orientation which is emphasized by the front portico and two bays as well as the centered wing and gable of the west elevation. The walls are finished with channel siding and the mansard with octagonal shingles. The house rests upon the stone block walls of the raised full basement. The interior maintains its original floor plan, detailing and materials. Behind the house is a one-story, noncontributing 1980 garage/workshop with a shingled mansard roof and channel siding. The setting contains the original cast-iron hitching post (contributing object) and four, 100-year-old palms at the curbside, a 1990 wrought-iron fence and gates (uncounted), the original concrete front walk, two 100+-year-old magnolias and a generous setback of cultivated lawn. Being in excellent condition, the property fronts onto First Street, as in the 1870s, is prominently located within the Boggs Addition of downtown Napa and has had very little alteration since its construction."
