In Millis, at the junction of Exchange Street and Curve Street (also known as Holbrood Square) is a war memorial for those in Millis who served in wars from the American Revolutionary War through World War I.
The memorial is located in the center of a triangular park bounded by the roads and a connector road by the parsonage. The rock is a small round rock about 5 ft high. On the rock are two memorial plaques. One side has the following at the top:
"In honor of the Patriots of East Medway Who Gave Their Services to Their Country"
The following wars are shown on this plaque:
"1775 War of the Revolution 1783"
"War of 1812"
"Mexican War 1845"
"1861 Civil War 1865"
Other features are also present on the plaque including torches and the American shield.
On the top of the second plaque is the following text:
"Dedicated to the Men of Millis who Served Their Country"
The second plaque had the following wars:
"1898 Spanish American War 1902"
"1917 The World War 1918"
At the bottom is the following text:
"Erected by the Citizens of Millis May 30, 1935"
The wording of the first plaque saying "East Medway" indicates to me that this plaque was installed before Millis was formed in 1881.
Topping the rock of the memorial is a bronze eagle with the wings outstretched.
