Sir Walter Raleigh was born about 1552 and was known as an explorer and trying to established a colony in what is now North Carolina. He is credited with introducing potatoes and tobacco into England.
After two attempts to find the fabled "El Dorado" failed he was executed on 29th October 1618

The lifesize statue dressed in period costume is composed of stone and is standing looking down at the passers-by walking up and down London Court ,a tudor styled arcade built in the 1930s, from a height of 4m
