The depiction is known to the residents simply as "The Mural". Each scene depeicts some part of the history of the town or some memorable person from Ipswich.

It was painted in 1989 by over 70 volunteers from the town. One of the photos shows the list of names but weather has faded most of them so they are unreadable.

In 1999, 25 persons from town decided to re-paint the mural and their names are also listed on a separate painting.

Ipswich is a small community in Edmunds County, South Dakota.
Its population as of July 2008 was 866, reflecting a drop in population of about 8% from the 2000 census.

Ipswich has a rich history that began over 100 years ago with the coming of the railroad. The town has grown into an agricultural community. The 1000 residents have strong values and the hard work ethic that came west with their pioneer ancestors. Located at the junction of US Highway 12 and SD Highway 45, Ipswich is only 100 miles from Interstate 29 to the east and Interstate 90 to the south. The school system has been honored for excellence and there are plenty of opportunities for recreation. We invite you to come visit Ipswich!
