This orientation table is located at the Schonchin Butte Fire Lookout and focuses on the active volcanoes in the area and reads:

Will It Erupt Again?
Appearing about 1,100 years ago, the barren Callahan Flow and Cinder Butte are young formations. Both the age and geologic composition of volcanic features determine how quickly vegetation can regain a foothold. This eruption was one of eight on the Medicine Lake shield volcano between about 3,000 and 900 years ago, relatively recent activity in geologic time.

On the horizon, composite volcano Mount Shasta is recognized by its steep, narrow profile. In 1786, Mount Shasta sent pyroclastic flows of gases and hot rocks down its flanks and shot columns of ash high into the air. Because tectonic plates are still in motion deep beneath the surface, it is likely that both Medicine Lake and Mount Shasta will erupt again sometime in the future.
