This piece of art was a surprise find, well out of the city centre where most public art of Perth is located. The sculpture is on a street corner, opposite a (good) cafe, in the suburbs. It was commissioned by the local town council.
The art consists of a white arrow, as the main piece, ~4m high, embedded in a plaque. The plaque is embellished with the symbols of the nine (more on that later) planets. Several babies are riding the arrow. There is a plaque accompanying the sculpture, which tells us that the artwork was prompted by the street names: "Planet" and "Archer" (in gallery). Cute.
An amusing piece of art, but, the inclusion of Pluto is a mistake. In 2006 the International Astronomical Union demoted Pluto to the status of a "dwarf planet".
