This mural (#2 in The Murals of Conejos County Driving Tour) shows the history of the Conejos River region; from Indians and early explorers to the Spanish settlers and the railroad. It features the grand landscape of the Sangre de Cristo Mountains in the background and see if you can find the rabbit (Conejos is Spanish for Rabbit).

The mural was created by Fred "Lightning Heart" Haberlein and measures 16 ft x 100 ft. It is one of many in the area that comprise the Murals of Conejos County Driving Tour, highlighting art that engages in the "ages-old local tradition of story-telling depicting tales of settlement, folklore, faith, scenic beauty and everyday rural life." A brochure is available at the Antonito and Alamosa chambers of commerce.
