This mural (#8 in
The Murals of Conejos County Driving Tour) is located in a small park in the heart of Antonito. The art stands on four 40-foot high silos and features depictions of natives, settlers, pioneers, farmers, railroads and the magnificent San Luis landscape. All are important aspects to the rich history of the region.
The mural was created by Fred "Lightning Heart" Haberlein. It is one of many in the area that comprise the Murals of Conejos County Driving Tour, highlighting art that engages in the "ages-old local tradition of story-telling depicting tales of settlement, folklore, faith, scenic beauty and everyday rural life." A brochure is available at the Antonito and Alamosa chambers of commerce.
