If you're ever passing through Palm Desert and are looking for some great Mexican cuisine, don't pass up the opportunity to patronize
(website under construction). And don't let the name fool you. This restaurant is a very busy and vibrant atmosphere of patrons eating, laughing, drinking and even singing on occasions.
I took numerous pictures that hung on the wall of their lobby entrance and one of them in particular reads:
Casuelas Café - Nov. 12, 2010
The Menu Reads Like a Classic Mexican Cookbook
Enjoy Casuelas Café All Day Long
By Holly Hamlin - Located in Palm Desert between Portola and San Pablo, Casuelas Café has long been a favorite with locals.
Whether you sit inside and enjoy the beautiful décor, or dine outdoors and take in the scenery, be sure to order one of their legendary margaritias to get the party started. Sip on the classic version or enjoy one made with super premium tequila brands such as Patron Anejo or Sauza Tres Generaciones.
The menu reads like a classic Mexican cookbook. Get started with one of the delicious quesadillas or nachos with shredded beef or chicken. Entrees include Chile Verde, Carnitas, Enchiladas (made with your choice of cheese, chicken beef or vegetables) and Chile Rellenos.
Looking for two meals in one? Order a Super Burrito (like I did and ate it all myself!) packed with chicken, pork, beef, beans, cheese, lettuce and tomatoes. It's a pretty sure bet that you'll be taking part of your meal home (nonsense! ;) ). Steak lovers will enjoy the Carne Asada Burrito loaded with perfectly seasoned top sirloin, guacamole and pico de gallo.
If you think that you have to wait until lunch to enjoy all of these amazing flavors, get ready to break out of your routine. On the weekends, Casualas Café serves breakfast including Machaca con Huevos, Breakfast Burritos, omelettes and, of course, homemade Medudo. Team it with a Mexican Hot Chocolate and you're set for the day.
