The sculpture is part of a series titled "ELEVATION, ONE, TWO, THREE" by the artist Jon Tarry. In his words, "This series of artworks express notions of aerial manoeuvre, wildlife migration and a regeneration of natural environments.

Wing Three - 'Seed Carrier' is sited in a landscape of constant change. This wing form highlights forms that are synonomous with trees, always gesturing to the sky."

The works were commissioned by Perth Airport in the Autumn of 2007. Sky Pointer, Seed Carrier and Water Wing were formally unveiled by The Hon. Sheila McHale, MLA, Minister for Tourism, Culture and Arts, and Consumer Protection, on 8 November 2007.

In 2004, Perth Airport initiated a project to transform an abandoned sand quarry into a fully functioning wetland contributing to local and regional biodiversity values while also serving hydrological and ecological functions for the area.

The project involved:

Removal/transplantation of exisiting vegetation
Relocation of topsoil and site preparation (weed control)
Installation of fencing within the wetland to prevent unauthorised vehicle access
Revegetation with stock grown from locally-provenanced seed

Over 128 species of aquatic macroinvertebrates have been recorded from wetlands on the airport estate. Rehabilitation of this wetland is helping to contribute to this high level of biodiversity.
