Two beautiful patriotic windows by glass artist Patrick McKinney were commissioned by the Department of Kansas Veterans of Foreign Wars, and presented to the People of Kansas on 4 July 1976, the bicentennial of the American Revolution.

The window on the right shows a member of the famous "Green Mountain Boys" militia, a US Army officer leading an advance, and a patriot volunteer.

In the center of the window, twice as large as the other figures, stands General George Washington. The backdrop is an exploding volcano, alluding to the welling-up and final explosion of frustration with Great Britain that set off the American Revolution. It also may allude to the explosion of pride and patriotism that motivated men and women to join the cause and fight for liberty.

The sky is composed of two Colonial-era American flags, whose corners are gathered at the volcano's fiery mouth.

The window on the right is a similar scene with figures in the foreground and a volcano in the background.

This time the central figure is of an American soldier in uniform. He is flanked by an older veteran, a military member leading a charge in battle, and a young man who will be a veteran in the future.

The volcano is topped with the VFW crest and more fire, with American flags gathered at the center. This time Blasterz think the volcano signifies the eruption of patriotism that motivates men and women to join the Armed Forces.

Mama and Daddy Blaster are BOTH Navy veterans of the Persian Gulf War, so these windows had special meaning for us.
