The fountain at Lauren’s Garden is the central piece of "Lauren's Garden", a memorial within Market Square Park in downtown Houston, Texas, dedicated to all the victims of the 9/11 attacks.
The three granite walls in the fountain represent the three crash sites, New York, Washington, DC, and Pennsylvania.
Each smooth stone in the fountain represents a life lost. Water gently flows around 40 large stones for those on United Flight 93. 2,653 small pebbles line the front of the fountain for those who died at the World Trade Center, along with 194 larger pebbles for those who died at the Pentagon.
Bronze sculptures in the fountain, created by Ketria Bastian Scott, are modeled after the bristlecone pine, an organism that can survive 5,000 years -- symbolizing endurance. They represent two graceful vine-like tendrils growing from the base reaching toward each other, with a young tendril emerging on the side.
